Magical Black Girl of the Week: Zoë Kravitz

Aside from being the magical daughter of Lisa Bonet and Lenny Kravitz, I only knew two things about Zoe Kravitz. Being that I love A Different World I was aware that her birth was what caused Lisa Bonet to leave after the first season and as a Sci-Fi nerd I  knew she was an actress from her role as Christina in Divergent and that was about it.

Dope, a movie about a kid trying to navigate high school while growing up in Inglewood, California, debuted nationwide this Friday and Zoe played the romantic interest, Nakia. One of the dopest things about this movie outside of the adventurous plot is it’s soundtrack. From A Tribe Called Quest to Nas, the 90’s feel of the compilation made me dance in my seat throughout most of the film.

In a scene with “Nakia” and main character Malcolm (which I won’t spoil), I heard a song (called Dirty Feeling) that I later found out was by Zoe Kravitz herself. Zoe is in an electronic band called Lolawolf and they have been making a lot of beautiful noise. Listen to Dirty Feeling and Lolawolf’s new single from their upcoming mixtape below!
