Magical Black Girl of the Week: Bree Newsome

South Carolina’s governor, Nikki Haley, finally deciding to “officially” remove the confederate flag from their state house was not the best news this week. On June 28, Bree Newsome, the brave and magical Black girl that wouldn’t take no for an answer and removed South Carolina’s state house Confederate flag, was released from jail along with friend and fellow activist, James Tyson.

After being released from jail, Newsome declared the she and Tyson removed the flag because “we can’t wait any longer.”

“We can’t continue like this another day. It’s time for a new chapter where we are sincere about dismantling white supremacy and building toward true racial justice and equality.”

Bree you are bold and you are strong. You decided enough was enough and I applaud you for taking a stand.

Thanks for highlighting Bree’s heroism. In this tragic hour, we need to see more sparks of courage from back in the day! Our generation today, needs to take notes from our ancestors.
